Who We Are

About PeaceWorks

Based on Love. Fostered with Compassion.

PeaceWorks is a non-profit 501(c)3 charity providing assistance for survivors of  relationship violence/abuse: intimate partner violence (IPV), domestic violence, teen dating violence and stalking; sex trafficking and sexual assault outside of relationship violence. PeaceWorks owns and operates Safe Shelter, a temporary secure and confidential home for individuals, families and pets that are experiencing IPV. But, it is so much more.

The shelter began in the basement of a community member who saw the need to create a safe space for the victims in her town experiencing IPV. Since then, that vision has grown, and PeaceWorks and its programming and services are the fruit of that vision.

Where does this need come from?

  • 1 in 3 women have been victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime
  • 1 in 7 men are the victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime
  • 3 women are killed each day by current or former intimate partners
  • 1 in 7 violent crimes are between intimate partners

The statistics are grim, but we have developed a program that is doing something about it, standing up against intimate partner violence in so many way.

Something to Be Proud Of

Since 1986, PeaceWorks, with the constant help of our community members, has been building and operating a successful organziation which stands up against Intimate Partner Violence in many ways….

Here are some of the things you can expect from us:

  • 24-hour Safe Line staffed by PeaceWorks Advocates and trained volunteer advocates
  • Offer both residential and non-residential survivors counseling, education, advocacy and support
  • 1 of 5 shelters in Colorado to offer a SafePet Program. People who are accepted into shelter can bring their beloved pets. Just about any pet will be accepted. Foster care is available for livestock
  • 1 of 10 shelters in Colorado to offer services to both victims of relationship violence/abuse and to sexual assault victims outside of relationship violence
  • Education presentations are offered to increase community awareness, encourage prevention and develop effective community responses
  • Addressing Teen Dating Violence: Intimate Partner Violence is not going to end until we address the root components. This is about starting conversations with young people
  • PeaceWorks operates under a “Survivor Driven Policy,” believing every survivor knows what is best for their specific circumstances; advocating from a survivor driven and trauma informed place
  • PeaceWorks supports survivors from Park, Clear Creek and Jefferson counties and the Denver metro area; however we accept anyone who is experiencing Intimate Partner Violence and have accepted clients from across both Colorado and all over the country
